Functional Area 3.2 Engineering, System Engineering, and Process Engineering Support
The S7 Team encompasses a large pool of talented professionals with experience supporting the Virtual SYSCOM at applying engineering discipline to the development of new warfighters/systems/subsystems, developing new capabilities for existing systems, providing technical input for requirements generation and system evaluation, integrating new/enhanced technologies, and analyzing alternative or substitution technologies/processes/systems. The S7 Teams’ focus on holistic solutions aids in ensuring that the engineering expertise provided truly utilizes a systems approach and gives adequate attention to areas such as human factors, sustainability, support, and goals (near-term and emergent). Members of the S7 team have been involved both at the prime and sub-level providing support to NAVAIR 6.8.5, NAVAIR 4.0P, NAVAIR 4.1.6, NAVAIR 4.5.5.6, F/A-18 A-F, JSF, E2 Hawkeye, H-60, P-3, NAVAIR Ageing Aircraft Group, SPAWAR SSCN, and other
Under Project N00039-99-C-3225, S7 team members have conducted performance requirements analyses, evaluated designated system equipment designs, and assessed the ability of the design to fulfill overall operational requirements. DCS performed trade-off analyses of candidate navigation system implementation approaches and designs to determine which approach provides the best solution to identified problems, identified and developed integration interfaces and processes, generated and/or reviewed all technical documentation for the NAVSSI program, including functional and system specifications such as System/Subsystem Specifications (SSS), Software Requirement Specifications (SRS), Interface Requirement Specifications (IRS) and Interface Design Documents (IDD). DCS develops and/or reviews equipment design specifications including Functional Interface Drawings (FID), Installation Control Drawings (ICD) and Ship Installation Drawings (SID). DCS analyzes proposed changes to the NAVSSI in accordance with MIL-STD-498. DCS personnel have participated in all NAVSSI development cycles since program inception.
